A lot of folks right about now are probably longing for the good old days in mortgage lending, the time when local savings and loans made most of the home loans and held most of that paper in their own portfolio. It was a quaint "Bailey Building & Loan" scenario, one in which neighbors stored their savings in the same place that lent you the money for your house.
